The Port of Seattle, which manages the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport , reported a “possible cyberattack” that disrupted its websites and phone systems.
The port initially acknowledged the issues on social media Saturday morning, followed by an announcement from the airport indicating "system outages pointing to a possible cyberattack."
By late Saturday, the airport confirmed ongoing outages, stating, “There is no estimated time for full service restoration, but Port teams are actively working to resolve the issue.” Travelers were advised to use airline apps for boarding passes and bag tags and to allow extra time to reach their gates.
As of Sunday morning Pacific time, a TechCrunch review of DNS records showed that the Port of Seattle's public-facing web infrastructure, including its website, remained largely offline.
A TSA spokesperson informed GeekWire that security operations were unaffected. Earlier this year, the Biden Administration issued an executive order to bolster cybersecurity in ports.
This incident follows a global IT meltdown caused by a CrowdStrike software update less than a month ago, which led to widespread flight cancellations and delays.
